Policy Information

One of the functions of the System Operator, specified in the Code, is to prepare and publish a Supply of Supply Forecasting and Information Policy and an Emergency Management Policy. As part of the transition to the current regulatory regime, effective from 1 November 2010, the Electricity Commission published initial policies for each. The System Operator has revised and gained Electricity Authority approval for an updated Emergency Management Policy.

Links to the approved version of these policies are in the Approved Policy section below.

Approved Policies

The Emergency Management Policy (EMP), effective from 19 December 2011, sets out the steps the system operator will take, as a reasonable and prudent operator during an extended emergency.  The steps to be taken by the system operator include the requirement for the system operator to initiate an official conservation campaign under pre-determined conditions and, if needed, manage and coordinate planned outages as an emergency measure in anticipation of, or during, prolonged energy shortages.

The Security of Supply Forecasting and Information Policy sets out the functions of the system operator in relation to the provision of information and short to medium term forecasting.
