Procurement Plan

As System Operator, Transpower has a contract with the Electricity Commission to co-ordinate and manage the real time transmission of electricity – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The System Operator's obligations are set out in Part C of the Electricity Governance Rulebook. These obligations include a Procurement Plan (Part C Schedule C5) which sets out the means by which the System Operator will purchase ancillary services (like instantaneous reserves) in order to operate and manage the power system in real time

The System Operator is required under the EGRs to submit a Draft Procurement Plan to the Board by 01 June each year. The Procurement Plan is active from 1 December to 30 November.

The System Operator will use reasonable endeavours to both implement and comply with the procurement plan.
