Procurement Plan

As System Operator, Transpower co-ordinates and manages the real time transmission of electricity – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The System Operator's obligations are set out in Parts 7 and 8 of the Electricity Industry Participation Code (the 'Code').  These obligations include preparing a Procurement Plan which sets out the means by which the System Operator will purchase ancillary services (like instantaneous reserves) in order to operate and manage the power system in real time.

The System Operator is required under the 'Code' to submit a Draft Procurement Plan to the Electricity Authority by 01 June each year. The Procurement Plan is active from 1 December to 30 November.

The System Operator will use reasonable endeavours to both implement and comply with the procurement plan.
