Kieran Devine
General Manager System Operations
With over 30 years experience in the electricity industry both in New Zealand and overseas, Kieran joined Transpower in 2002 from engineering consultants Beca Carter Hollings and Ferner. Prior experience was with the Electricity Corporation of NZ and its predecessor organisations. His previous roles with Transpower have included GM Service Delivery and Acting Chief Information Officer. In January 2004, he was appointed General Manager System Operations.
Dan Twigg
System Operations Manager
Dan joined Transpower in early 2004. He has legal, project management and risk management experience. Prior to Dan undertaking this role was the SO Risk & Performance Manager and focussed on supporting the development of customer relationships with the System Operator's customers and the contractual obligations of Transpower's service contract with the Electricity Commission. An important activity was helping develop and support the System Operator's approach to its business and interactions with industry participants. Further, he has focussed on regulatory and compliance matters and the annual Policy Statement and Procurement Plan reviews.
The responsibilities of the role are to ensure the System Operator’s real-time operation provides secure and economic dispatch.
Kevin Small
SO Investigations & Planning Manager
Kevin has over a decade of operational experience during which he has been closely involved with the development of the New Zealand electricity market. This gives Kevin the background to lead his team that manage the inputs that affect the real-time environment and provide expert analysis on the performance of the power system.
Kevin's role in the System Operator is to lead three teams providing technical support and process leadership within the System Operations Division. This includes the market systems used in real time, planning of power system outages and provision of reports on system adequacy and assessment of technical capability.
John Campbell
SO Risk & Performance Manager
John joined Transpower in 2000. John was previously the Contracts Manager in the System Operations Division with one of the key areas of his role being the procurement of ancillary services. Prior to John undertaking this role he has held project management roles for the System Operator in a number of key projects including; Large generator commissionings and the South Island System Performance Investigation Project.
The responsibilities of John's role and the Risk and Performance group are to:
- ensure the SO complies with the Electricity Governance Rules
- perform its obligations under the SO Service Provider Agreement with the Electricity Commission
- manage the procurement of ancillary services the SO requires to properly manage the power system
- produce and maintain the SO's documentation used to support operational processes and process improvement initiatives.
Doug Goodwin
SO Development Manager
Doug has been involved in the electricity industry for 30 years. In his current position as Development Manager he is responsible for leading and supporting developments to improve and enhance the efficiency of the overall operation of the electricity market and power system.
The development group ensures that Transpower, as System Operator presents a consistent and co-ordinated view on market developments to the Electricity Commission and Industry participants.
