Acceptance trials
The acceptance trials which started on 22nd June are proceeding very well with our target go-live date of 21st July still achievable.
A transition trial (practice go-live) exercise was successfully held last week.
Participants have taken advantage of an opportunity to visit our shadow operations sites at both Wellington and Hamilton, with these visits continuing through until the end of this week.
What comes next?
Today we start swapping the new Market System and the Shadow Operations environments over, putting the new Market System into the control room environment and moving our old market system into the Shadow Operations rooms. This will take two days, starting with Wellington today and Hamilton tomorrow. This will see all systems in their final state ready for go-live next week.
On Wednesday we will move to full 24 hour parallel running of the new systems, bringing the two systems into synchronism ready for go-live.
MSP branch network information change
As we get closer to MSP go live, we have received a question about the way branches are being reported in EM6, specifically the “From Bus” and “To Bus” associated with a branch.
The reporting change is best illustrated by way of an example as follows:
Branch From Bus To Bus
KMO_TGA1.1 KMO1102 TGA1101
KMO_MTM1.1 KMO1103 MTM1101
Branch From Bus To Bus
KMO TGA1.1 KMO110 TGA110
KMO MTM1.1 KMO110 MTM110
The reporting change has been made because of new functionality which allows us to automatically security check every trading period of key schedules. This new process requires a dynamically updated grid which accounts for the real status of circuit breakers and disconnectors.
Therefore the bus reference ID that a branch connects to can change from period to period within a schedule. Market nodes, which were static buses in the old market system, are modelled separately and linked to specific points in the network model which are also linked to a dynamic bus for each period within a schedule.
As the new market system does not use a static relationship between branches and market nodes the To Bus and From Bus fields in the branch table can no longer contain the static bus name (market node) you are used to seeing. Rather than removing these fields, the To Bus and From Bus fields will now contain the substation code and voltage level of the bus section to which each branch physically connects.
Note: The normal relationship between branches and market nodes will still be published in the SPD diagram available on the System Operator website.

Advising go-live intention
We will advise industry of the go-live date, prior to that occurring.
